Fitograbado Ecological Artwork

From a Single Leaf to a Piece of Art

Fitograbado is an art form originating from the indigenous Indian groups who live on the east side of the Andes Mountains in what is called the Selva (jungle). Artist Marco Antonio began learning this art form at the age of seven and has become a master at his craft.

The leaves he uses come from avocado, coffee, and cocoa trees. He treats and preserves the leaves without the use of chemicals in a process like the one used to create Egyptian papyrus. Marco then removes small portions of the leaves to create the design.

Fitograbado pictures, depending on the size and design, take anywhere from one month to a month and a half to complete. They are truly original pieces of art.
